Black History Month: Curator of The Week - Boye Fajinmi
09 Feb 2022
Happy Black History Month!
We are excited to announce a new series here at ThinkLA. One of our main goals is to uplift and highlight BIPOC voices within and outside of our industry. To kickoff this series, we have the one and only Boye Fajinmi, Co-Founder and President, FutureParty, a community-based media platform built for the next generation of creative leaders.
How did you get started in advertising? What's been your career road map?
Right out of college, I got my start working at WME talent agency in L.A. which was great but not the traditional route to marketing and advertising. Afterwards I worked at Paramount Pictures for a woman who ran interactive marketing and part of the film studio. That’s when I got a taste of marketing and advertising. From there I went on my own and did the entrepreneur thing where I learned grass roots marketing and advertising form the ground up.
- What has been an important, perhaps the most important, lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
Start simple and test quickly.
- What inspires your creativity? What is your creative process like?
I get inspired by what other people are doing in the media and entertainment industry. Celebrating innovation, individual or corporate, really inspires me. When I build, I work to draw from the creativity I see and make connections, those connections could be ideas, societal behaviors, or operational efficiencies.
- If you could go back in time, what would you have told your younger self?
Focus and embrace discipline.
- What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?
The couple that got arrested money laundering billions in Bitcoin. Wild.
- Any closing thoughts you want to share with the ThinkLA Members?
Everyone should be paying attention to Web3 and figuring out how to take part in it.
